Weymouth, northern Tasmania

Another “field trip”!

Travelled up to the north of the State today. Weymouth is a coastal township northeast of Launceston. The beach area to the west of the township is a declared fossicking site where, if you are lucky, you can find agates, chalcedony pebbles or petrified wood.

There are lots of basalt boulders on the beach, and in one area, pretty much in the middle of the boulder field, is the telltale signs of hexagonal basalt columns. The hexagonal shape is caused by shrinkage. Only these are basically truncated close to ground level. Nice to see...

Did I find anything? Maybe a few chalcedony pebbles and one that has a bit of agate banding...
