One Day, Two Books

Back on the 15th June, I ordered two books, one from Hard to Find Books, Dunedin, New Zealand, and the other from Rocks of Ages, Indiana, US. Both arrived today within 10 minutes of one another! But delivered by two different people. The first by our normal postie, the second by a parcel delivery van, both employed by Australia Post.

Book 1: Geology of Japan, Takai, Matsumoto and Toriyama. Published in 1963 and hard to come by. It was in the New Zealand Government National Library Service, and according to the card inside, last taken out in 1972. It could have been sold off in the intervening period to a private person of course.

Book 2: Introduction to Japanese Minerals, Nambu. Published in 1970 and even harder to get. This one has a bookplate from the Library of the Field Museum of Natural History, founded in 1893, and located in Chicago, Illinois. It has 10 colour plates (28 photos) and 16 black and white plates (25 photos). In the body of the book, there are many other black and white photos, crystal drawings, and pen and ink illustrations, as well as a fold out map and four other maps in a rear pocket.

A bit of light reading!

I can recommend both book sellers, having bought from them before. We dropped in to Hard to Find Books when we were last in Dunedin. We paid for a few books there and had them mailed back to us.
